How to Jailbreak iPhone 1,3G,3GS,4, and iPod Touch 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen and iPad with iOS 4.0.1, 4.0,3.1.3,3.1.2, or 3.2, and 3.2.2 for iPad

These firmwares are the easiest to jailbreak. All you have to do is go to jailbreakme.com on your iDevice's browser and slide the slider across the screen. This jailbreak does require a Wi-Fi connection and cannot be performed over 3G. If you decide to Google jailbreakme make sure you click on the first link that says jailbreakme 2.0 not the sponsored link at the top as it is a scam. Once you slide the slider accross the bottom it will begin a download. Once the download is finished it will ask you if you want to load a PDF file click load. After a few seconds it will display a message saying it is finished. Tap OK and Cydia will have been added to your home screen. If cydia is not there restart the device. If it is still not there try again it should work.

Tethered vs. Untethered Jail Breaks

If you have been doing any research on how to Jail Break you may have seen something called tethered or untethered jail breaks. Untethered jail breaks are much better than untethered in fact I avoid tethered jail breaks. So what does tethered mean? Well  tethered jail break is one in which the device is not "fully" jail broken meaning that if you decide you need to turn your device off and then back on it will not turn back on in a jail broken state and you will be unable to use any jail break features unless you turn on your device while it is hooked to a computer running a jail break program. This can be an extreme handicap as sometimes it is necessary to restart your device while on the go. Untethered jail breaks however are "fully" jail broken and will restart in a jail broken state even if you do not plug it into your computer. So it is usually inadvisable to use a tethered jail break though tethered jail breaks often come out long before untethered jailbreaks it is still often better to wait for the untethered jail break to be released.

What I Need to Know Before Jail Breaking.

There are a few different things you will need to know before beginning the jail breaking process. The first thing you need to know is what version iDevice you are going to jailbreak. Determining exactly what iDevice you have is important because they jail break differently. There are several different ways to determine what device you have. We'll start with iPhones. The first generation iPhone and the fourth generation iPhone are pretty distinguishable just from there external appearance. However the iPhone 3G and 3GS are nearly identical in appearance. However they are not hard to tell apart. The best way to tell them apart is to look for the compass app. If you have the compass app then you have the 3GS if you do not have the compass app then you have the iPhone 3G.

Now on to the iPod Touches. The first generation iPod Touch is pretty easy to distinguish. It has a flat metal back and is slightly thicker than the others. The second and third generation are a little harder to tell apart. they both have the same style and the best way to tell them apart is to look on the back plate. In fine print on the black plate is the model number. If the model number begins with "A1288" it is the second generation iPod Touch. If it begins with "A1318" then it is the third generation iPod Touch. Also if you cant read the model number on the device its self if you plug it into your computer, open iTunes, click on your device in the left side panel and then go to the summary tab your model number will be displayed. The fourth generation is the easiest to spot just look for the cameras either in the front or in the back if they are there then it is the fourth generation.

If you have an iPad well currently there is only one type of iPad so you don't have to worry about identifying your device,

iPad
Once you know what device you have you need to figure out what version firmware you have. This too can be gained from the device info tab or you can go to Settings on your device then tap General  then tap About and scroll down to where it says version to the left is your firmware version.  Now comes a troubling question should I update or not? That depends. Do you want to jail break your device right this very instant or can you wait a week or two but get more features when you do. If you cant wait i suggest you first come back to this blog and check to see if there is a tutorial on how to jail break the firmware you are looking to update to for your device if not then you'll have to wait to jail break until they come out with a jailbreak for that firmware. If there is a tutorial then go ahead and update you might as well get those new features.

Now that you have your device version and your firmware version you know everything you need to know to jail break your device.

Is Jail Breaking Legal???

The simple answer to this is yes!!! In fact the FCC even deemed it legal on July 26th 2010. Though before this ruling it was technically illegal, prosecution was almost unheard of. Despite the fact that jail breaking is legal there are some things you should pay attention to when you jail break your phone. When you jailbreak your phone there will be the option to get free or "cracked" apps which are usually paid apps on the app store that are now freely distributed. This is piracy, piracy it theft, and theft is illegal so do not think that by jail breaking your phone you can go around and get all those apps you always wanted for free. It is wrong and it is illegal. Also I refuse to provide information about how or where to get free apps. If you want to find that information you will have to get it somewhere else and at your own risk. I will not be responsible for what you do after you jailbreak your phone. Just be smart and avoid things that look to good to be true and you will not have anything to worry about.

What is Jail Breaking?

For my first real post I thought that I would explain exactly what jail breaking is. Jail breaking though more commonly associated with Apple Inc.'s ever popular iOS (the operating system on your phone. Think of it as windows or mac on your computer. Its the same thing only on a phone.) based devices it can actually refer to any of what are called closed system devices. A closed system device is a device where in which the company who produces the device heavily regulates the software allowed on their device, these devices include iPhone, iPad, Xbox360,Wii, Ps3, etc. Jail breaking removes the software and sometimes hardware limitations that prevent you from running anything not allowed by the company who regulates it.

That's all great and all but how does that help you? Well when you jail break a device it allows you to do things with that device that you would not normally be able to do if it weren't jail broken. For example before you jail break your iDevice you cant change the icons on your device but once it is jail broken you can. So by jail breaking your iDevice you will gain a great deal of functionality that you did not have before. This is why jail breaking is something you should always do to your devices. I hope that is post has given you a better understand of what jail breaking is. If you have any questions feel free to comment below or send me an E-Mail and be sure to check back tomorow later on tonight where I will be discussing the legality of jail breaking.

Welcome Everybody

This is my first post but not to bee my last. I created this Blog because I have noticed that many people still have not jail broken there IDevices. I believe this is the case for several reasons 1. because some people have never heard of jail breaking. 2. because people don't know how to jail break the device. 3. because people think it is hard. or 4. because people think that the moment they jailbreak the device they will hear helicopters hovering outside there house and the F.B.I. breaking down there door. All of these will be covered over the next couple of posts. Later posts will include how to tutorials which will be updated with subsequent posts as new methods become available. I will provide links to the software needed for jail breaking as well as some other sources for tutorials. So stick around here for all your jailbreak news and information.

On a more important note there are some rules on this blog. Though I encourage you to post your comments and express your opinions as well as ask
